Facts about Mundelein
Lake County, 33 miles NW of the Loop.
An 1850s settlement of English millwrights three miles west of
Libertyville is said to have inspired the area's name of Mechanic's Grove.
When the Wisconsin Central Railroad built through the area to Chicago in 1880,
local farmer John Holcomb donated land for a station and village plat, which he named after himself.
To honor the line's most notable stockholder, the railroad renamed the station after William Rockefeller in 1885.

Mundelein High School
Mundelein was incorporated in 1909. Located in the center of Lake County, Mundelein provides over 11,000 full time jobs to the region. Major employers include: Medline Industries, Rexam Medical Packaging and MacLean-Fogg, Washburn Guitar, and Motorola.
Recreation
The community offers a variety of recreation activities including boating and other water sports on Diamond Lake, five golf courses, a health and fitness center, numerous soccer and baseball fields, 22 park sites covering 240 acres, two bowling alleys, a public swimming pool and public beach.
Schools
High school students attend Mundelein Consolidated High School District #120 with 1,826 students or Libertyville High School District #128 with 800 students. Carmel High School, a parochial high school is also located in the village. The majority of elementary students attend Mundelein District #75 with three schools, one middle school and 2,300 students. Portions of the village are also served by Fremont District #79, Diamond Lake District #76 and Hawthorn District #73.

Approximately 10,100 housing units are located in Mundelein. A wide range of housing options are available. The 2000 median house value was $164,300 and the median rent cost was $774. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000)

The Mundelein Fire Department has 24 full-time firefighters/ paramedics and 29 paid-on-call firefighters/paramedics/EMTs at two stations. The Village's ISO rating of 3 places it in the top 10% of the departments in the state. The Mundelein Police Department has 45 sworn officers and recently received national accreditation.
Transportation
Metra commuter trains stop at the Wisconsin Central Line station at 205 North Archer Street in the Village. Pace Bus Route 572 also serves the Village, and Pace Dial-a-Ride service is available for seniors and the disabled.
