Recreation
A variety of community parks are available as well as the Greenbelt Forest Preserve. With its close proximity, Lake Michigan offers an abundance of recreational opportunities.
Schools
The majority of elementary students attend Gurnee Elementary District #56, with an enrollment of 1,772 students. A small portion of elementary students also attend either Woodland Elementary District #50, with an enrollment of 5,349 students, or Waukegan Unit District #60, with an enrollment of 13,441. The majority of high school students attend Warren Township District #121, with an enrollment of 2,603 students and a small portion of students attend Waukegan High School in Unit District #60. There are several parochial schools in Waukegan and Warren Township.

Police protection is provided by the city's eight full-time and one part-time sworn officers. Fire protection is provided by the Gurnee Fire Department.
Transportation
U.S. Rte. 41 and State Rte. 43 provide convenient north-south access and State Rte. 120 provides ready east-west access to and from the city.
