Port Barrington was incorporated in 1969. It straddles the boundary of Lake and McHenry Counties. The Village is bordered on the west by the Fox River with a series of manmade channels known as the "Nielsen Channels."
Recreation
Residents enjoy snowmobiling, boating and fishing with a free launch located on Park Drive. The Fox River Forest Preserve lies within the village.
Schools
Barrington Unit School District #220 and Wauconda Unit School District #118 serve the Lake County portion of the Village. District #220 has an enrollment of 7,695 students and District #118 has an enrollment of 3,547 students. There are parochial schools in Wauconda and Barrington.
